Michael Andrews has recently scored the upcoming HBO documentary The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling. The 2-parter is directed and executive produced by Judd Apatow (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Trainwreck, Knocked Up) and centers on the top stand-up comic and TV star who passed away in 2016. The documentary features conversations with more than 40 of Shandling’s family and friends, including James L. Brooks, Jim Carrey, Sacha Baron Cohen, David Coulier, Jon Favreau, Jay Leno, Kevin Nealon, Conan O’Brien, Bob Saget, Jerry Seinfeld and Sarah Silverman. Joe Beshenkovsky and Mike Bonfiglio are co-executive producing the project. Andrews has previously scored numerous Apatow productions, including Funny People, Freaks and Geeks, Bridesmaids and The Big Sick. The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling will premiere on March 26 & 27, 2018 HBO.
Andrews also has the thriller Headlock starring Dianna Agron & Andy Garcia coming up. The composer also has composed the music for the Belgian drama The Elephant and the Butterfly (Drôle de pèrr). The film is directed by Amélie Van Elmbt and stars Thomas Blanchard, Judith Chemla and Lina Doillon. The movie centers on a man who has just returned to his hometown and reunites with his former lover and the mother of their daughter whom he has never met. Martin Scorsese serves as an executive producer on the project. The drama will be released in select U.S. theaters this summer by Blue Fox Entertainment.
