Roger Neill has been tapped to score the upcoming movie musical Valley Girl. The film is directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg and stars Jessica Rothe, Josh Whitehouse, Mae Whitman, Chloe Bennet, Peyton List, Logan Paul, Jessie Ennis and Ashleigh Murray. The movie is based on Martha Coolidge’s 1983 romantic comedy of the same title and follows a Fernando Valley girl whose world and values are rocked when she falls hard for a rock musician. Amy Talkington wrote the screenplay with revisions by Marti Noxon (UnREAL, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Matt Smith (Mayhem) and Steven Wolfe (500 Days of Summer) is producing the MGM production. Valley Girl is set to be released by June 28, 2018 by MGM and Annapurna Pictures.
Neill whose previous scoring credits include Mozart in the Jungle, King of the Hill, Beginners, Don’t Think Twice and last year’s 20th Century Women also has the Netflix original movie Like Father coming up. The film marks the feature directorial debut of writer/actress Lauren Miller (For a Good Time, Call..) and stars Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammar. The movie centers on a workaholic woman who is left at the altar by her groom-to-be and winds up on her honeymoon cruise with her equally workaholic father. Miller is also producing the project with Anders Bard and Molly Conners & Amanda Bowers (Manglehorn, Song One, Rules Don’t Apply). Like Father is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere in 2018 on Netflix.
