Jeff Russo has been tapped to score the upcoming Starz original series Counterpart. The show is created by Justin Marks (The Jungle Book) and stars J.K. Simmons, Olivia Williams, Harry Lloyd, Stephen Rea, Richard Schiff and Sarah Bolger. The spy thriller follows a lowly cog in a bureaucratic agency, who discovers that the agency he works for is really guarding a crossing into a parallel dimension. Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game, Passengers) is directing the first two episodes and is also executive producing the MRC (Media Rights Capital), Gilbert Films and Anonymous Content production with Marks, Amy Berg (Da Vinci’s Demons), Gary Gilbert & Jordan Horowitz (La La Land, The Kids Are All Right), Keith Redmon (The Revenant, Berlin Station) and Bard Dorros (Triple 9). Counterpart has been ordered for two seasons. No premiere date has been announced yet.
Russo’s upcoming projects also include the features Lizzie, Three Christs and Submission, the Netflix original series Altered Carbon and the new season of FX’s Fargo, which will premiere later this week. The composer also recently scored the documentary Hondros directed by Greg Campbell. The movie, which centers on the life and career of famous war photographer Chris Hondros, will premiere later this month at the Tribeca Film Festival.
