Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) announced today that composer Alan Silvestri will be honored with the companys Icon Award at the 2017 Film, TV & Visual Media Awards. The annual ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 10, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills and will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President Film, TV & Visual Media Relations Doreen Ringer-Ross. BMI will bestow the Icon Award to Silvestri for his impactful contribution in the realm of film and television music. Throughout his career, the composer has scored over a hundred titles and earned two Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, two Emmy Awards and three GRAMMY awards. Among Silvestri’s best known credits are the Back to the Future trilogy, Forrest Gump, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? What Lies Beneath, The Polar Express, Predator, The Mummy Returns, Lilo and Stitch, the Night at the Museum trilogy, The Bodyguard, Captain America: First Avenger, The Avengers and The Croods. Silvestri was previously honored with BMI’s Richard Kirk Award in 1995 and joins a prestigious list of Icon honorees that includes Alexandre Desplat, David Arnold, Rachel Portman, David Newman, Thomas Newman, Rolfe Kent, Mychael Danna, George S. Clinton, Harry Gregson-Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Michael Kamen, Mark Mothersbaugh, Danny Elfman, Alan Menken, Mike Post, Lalo Schifrin, Cliff Martinez, John Barry, James Newton Howard and John Williams. The BMI Film & TV Awards will also honor the composers of the past year’s top-grossing films, top-rated primetime network television, and highest-ranking cable and streamed media programs.
