John Williams revealed in a recent interview with Variety that he is set to begin work on Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film adaptation of Ready Player One this coming November. The film will star Tye Sheridan, Oliva Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Win Morisaki, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg and T.J Miller. The movie is based on the 2011 novel of the same title by Ernest Cline and follows a group of teenagers on a quest for riches in a futuristic virtual world. Spielberg is also producing the project with Donald De Line (The Italian Job, Green Lantern), Kristie Macosko Krieger (Bridge of Spies) and Dan Farah (Armored). Ready Player One is set to be released on March 30, 2018 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Williams’ latest project, The BFG, recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and will be released nationwide on July 1. The composer also mentions in the interview that he expects to score Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is set for a December 15, 2017 release.
