A.R. Rahman is composing the music for the upcoming period drama Viceroy’s House. The film is directed by Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham) and stars Hugh Bonneville, Gillian Anderson, Simon Callow, Lily Travers, Michael Gambon, Manish Dayal, Huma Qureshi, Om Puri, Tanveer Ghani, Denzil Smith and Neeraj Kabi. Chadha has also co-written the screenplay with Paul Mayeda Berges and Moira Buffini (Jane Eyre, Tamara Drewe). She is also producing the project with Deepak Nayar (Buena Vista Social Club, Sense8, Walking with Dinosaurs 3D) and Paul Mayeda Berges. Viceroy’s House is expected to premiere later this year.
Rahman’s recent English language film projects include the biopic Pele: Birth of a Legend, which is currently playing in limited release. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is in the works.
