Paul Hepker is composing the music for the upcoming drama Shepherds and Butchers. The film is directed by Oliver Schmitz (Life, Above All, Turkish for Beginners) and stars Steve Coogan, Andrea Riseborough, Garion Dowds, Deon Lotz, Robert Hobbs and Eduan van Jaarsveldt. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Chris Marnewick and follows the case of a prison guard in South Africa who is traumatized by the executions he’s witnessed. Brian Cox has written the screenplay and is also producing the project with Anant Singh (Pulse, Prey). Hepker has previously scored the Singh-produced feature Kite. Shepherds and Butchers will premiere next month at the Berlin Film Festival.
As previously reported, Hepker also has the thriller Eye in the Sky directed by Gavin Hood and starring Aaron Paul and Helen Mirren coming up. The movie, which the composer co-scored with Mark Kilian, premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and will be released in theaters on March 11, 2016 by Bleecker Street Films.
