Richard Gibbs has signed on to score the upcoming music drama Coco. The film is directed by RZA (The Man with the Iron Fists) and stars Azealia Banks, Common, Jill Scott, Lucien Laviscount, Lorraine Toussaint and Hana Mae. The movie follows an aspiring hip-hop artist who struggles to pursue her music and returns to school, where she discovers the vivid world of slam poetry and finds her true voice and an unlikely love. Nicole Asher has written the screenplay. Paul Hall (Higher Learning, For Colored Girls, Addicted, Pride) is producing the project. Gibbs’ previous film scoring credits include such titles as Doctor Dolittle, 10 Things I Hate About You, 28 Days, Big Momma’s House, Queen of the Damned and I Spy. Coco is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2016 by Lionsgate’s Codeblack Films label.
