Carter Burwell has signed on to score the upcoming comedy The Family Fang. The film marks the second directorial feature effort of Jason Bateman following last year’s Bad Words and stars the actor himself, alongside Nicole Kidman and Christopher Walken, The movie is based on a novel by Kevin Wilson and follows two siblings who grew up in a performance artist family and learn the hard way about the differences between real life and art when their parents inexplicably disappear David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Oz the Great and Powerful) has written the screenplay. Daniela Taplin Lundberg & Riva Marker (The Kids Are All Right, What Maisie Knew) are producing the project for Red Crown, alongside Leslie Urdang & Dean Vanech (Beginners,Thanks for Sharing) for Olympus Pictures, Kidman & Per Saari (Rabbit Hole) for Blossom Films and Bateman & Jim Garavente for Aggregate Films. The Family Fang is expected to premiere later this year.
The composer is also set to reunite with the Coen Brothers to score the upcoming comedy Hail, Caesar!. The film stars Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson and Jonah Hill. The movie is set during the later year’s of Hollywood’s Golden Age and follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix. Joel & Ethan Coen have also written the screenplay and are producing the project with Eric Fellner & Tim Bevan (Atonement, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Theory of Everything) for Working Title Films. Hail, Caesar! is set to be released on February 5, 2016 by Universal Pictures.
Burwell’s upcoming projects also include Brian Helgeland’s Legend starring Tom Hardy and Charlie Kaufman-scripted animated film Anomalisa. The composer has also scored Bill Condon’s Mr. Holmes starring Ian McKellen. It was just announced that the drama will have its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival next month.
