The Cinema Audio Society has announced the nominees for the 51st Annual CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing. For the past couple of years, scoring mixers are being recognized alongside production, re-recording, ADR and foley mixers. In the Motion Pictures – Live Action category, the scoring mixers honored include Robert Fernandez for American Sniper (feat. music by Clint Eastwood), Gustavo Borner for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Birdman (music by Antonio Sanchez) and Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy (scored by Tyler Bates), Alan Meyerson for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (music by Hans Zimmer) and Jonathan Allen for Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken (music by Alexandre Desplat). In the Motion Pictures – Animated category, the nominated scoring mixers are Alan Meyerson for Disney’s Big Hero 6 (scored by Henry Jackman), Nick Wollage for Laika’s The Boxtrolls (music by Dario Marianelli), Shawn Murphy for DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 (scored by John Powell), Brad Haehnel for The Lego Movie (music by Mark Mothersbaugh) and Dennis Sands for Penguins of Madagascar (scored by Lorne Balfe). In the Television Movie or Mini-Series category, composer Nick Wollage received a nomination for his work as a scoring mixer on Sherlock: His Last Vow.
