Director Christopher McQuarrie announced on Twitter that Joe Kraemer is set to score the upcoming action thriller sequel Mission: Impossible 5. The film stars Tom Cruise who returns as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt. Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames are also reprising their roles from the previous installment in the series. They are joined by Alec Baldwin and Rebecca Ferguson. Will Staples and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) have written the screenplay. Cruise is also producing the project with J.J. Abrams. Kraemer has previously scored McQuarrie’s previous two directorial efforts, The Way of the Gun and 2011’s Jack Reacher, which also starred Tom Cruise. The previous Mission: Impossible films featured music by Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer and most recently, Michael Giacchino who scored the third and fourth parts in the series. All composers incorporated Lalo Schifrin’s classic theme from the television show into their scores. Mission: Impossible 5 is currently shooting overseas and is set to be released on December 25, 2015 by Paramount Pictures.

Sad that Giacchino won’t be back, but I guess he has a lot on his plate even without this project.
What a great thing. Pleased for Joe.
After Jack Reacher, glad to see Cruise and McQuarrie sticking with Joe. His relationship with McQuarrie goes back to Way of the Gun, so I am glad to see it continue.
Why, michael was so good, dammit, who the hell is this guy anyways?? with big movies like this you need a big action score, Michael was doing the best work for this series and before him there was Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman, why the hell did they hire this random guy!
For anyone who knows film music well and Joe Kraemer’s work, this is brilliant news. I’d say this is the opposite of a “random guy” as Kraemer has scored all of McQuarrie’s past work.. So we were expecting and hoping Kraemer would be announced. Watch Way of the Gun and Jack Reacher, then you will understand what Kraemers music is about, classic, unique, plenty of nods to the golden age of film music, Joe always brings a unique tone to the projects he works on. I’m very excited to hear where he will go with Schifrin’s classic theme. I think we can expect a completely fresh classic approach to the franchise.
I am stoked, Joe did a great job on Jack Reacher and I love his work, can’t wait to see the film and hear his work again.
