bensi-jurriaansDanny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans have been hired to score the upcoming indie drama Last Days in the Desert. The film is written and directed by Rodrigo Garcia and stars Ewan McGregor, Tye Sheridan, Ciaran Hinds and Ayelet Zurer. The movie follows a  holy man and a demon on a journey through the desert who encounters a family struggling to survive, which forces him to confront his own fate. Julie Lynn (The Jane Austen Book ClubAlbert Nobbs) and Bonnie Curtis (Minority ReportA.I. Artificial Intelligence) are producing the Mockingbird Pictures and Division Films production with Wicks Walker. Garcia previously collaborated with composers Edward Shearmur (Mother and ChildPassengers) and Brian Byrne (Albert Nobbs) on his previous features. Last Days in the Desert is currently in post-production.

The composers whose previous film scoring credits include Enemy and Martha Marcy May Marlene also have scored the drama The One I Love starring Mark Duplass, Elisabeth Moss and Ted Danson, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by the Weinstein Company’s Radius label for a release this August. They have also composed the music for the romance 5 to 7 starring Anton Yelchin, Glenn Close & Frank Langella, which recently premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Also coming up for Bensi and Jurriaans is the indie comedy Nasty Baby, which reunites them with director Sebastian Silva who previousy collaborated with the composers on Magic MagicNasty Baby stars the director himself, alongside Kristen Wiig, Tunde Adebimpe, Alia Shawkat and Mark Margolis. The movie follows a gay couple who embark on a doomed mission to have a baby with the help of their best friend, a family practitioner. Silva has also written the screenplay and is producing the project with Juan de Dios Larrain, Pablo Larrai (NoGloria), Peter Danner, Pape Boye and Violaine Pichon. Nasty Baby is expected to premiere later this year.

The composers’ other upcoming projects include the indie drama Franny. The film is written and directed by Andrew Renzi and stars Richard Gere, Dakota Fanning and Theo James. The movie  follows a gregarious hedonist who finds a renewed sense of purpose by desperately ingratiating himself into the lives of a young couple. Thomas B. Fore, Jason Michael Berman (Seven Days in UtopiaLUV) and Jay Schuminsky are producing the Treehouse Pictures production. No premiere date has been announced yet for Franny.
