Greg Kurstin is composing original music for the upcoming musical comedy drama Annie. The film is directed by Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits) and stars Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Amanda Troya, Eden Duncan Smith, Nicolette Pierini and Zoe Colletti. The movie is based on the Broadway classic of the same title and is set in the present day in New York. Emma Thompson has penned the screenplay, which was rewritten by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada, We Bought a Zoo) and revised by Gluck. Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith (The Karate Kid, After Earth) are producing the Overbrook Entertainment and Marcy Media production with James Lassiter (I Am Legend, The Pursuit of Happyness), Shawn “JAY Z” Carter, Jay Brown, and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith. The movie reportedly also features songs from the Broadshow show by composers Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin, as well as new songs by Jay Z. Kurstin is a Grammy Award-nominated songwriter and producer who has collaborated with such artists as Kelly Clarkson, P!nk and Lily Allen. He is also a member of the indie pop group The Bird and the Bee. Annie is set to be released on December 19, 2014 by Columbia Pictures. For updates on the film, visit the official movie website.
