Jeff Beal has recently composed the score for the upcoming Lifetime original movie A Day Late and a Dollar Short. The film is based on the New York Times bestseller by Terry McMillan (Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back) and stars Whoopi Goldberg as Viola Price, the irascible matriarch who tries to create some order within her family after learning her next asthma attack might kill her. Ving Rhames, Mekhi Phifer, Anika Noni Rose and Kimberly Elise are co-starring. Stephen Tolkin is directing the drama and Shernold Edwards (Haven) has written the screenplay. Goldberg and Tolkin producing the project alongside Tom Leonardis (Ruby’s Bucket of Blood), Jeffrey Hayes (The Starter Wife, Crusoe) and Bill Haber (Rizzoli & Isles). A Day Late and a Dollar Short will premiere later this year on Lifetime.
Beal has also composed the music for the second season of House of Cards, which premiered today on Netflix. A soundtrack album for the new season is in the works. The composer will also return to score the recently announced third season of the critically acclaimed drama.
