danny-elfmanDanny Elfman has been tapped to score the upcoming film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. The film is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy) and stars Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, Jennifer Ehle, Max Martini, Rita Ora and Marcia Gay Harden. The movie based on the bestselling book by E.L. James follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks) has adapted the material for the screen. Michael De Luca (Captain Phillips, Moneyball) and Dana Brunetti (The Social Network, 21) are producing the Focus Features and Universal Pictures production. Fifty Shades of Grey is set to be released on February 13, 2015.

As previously reported, the composer also has Tim Burton’s Big Eyes and DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman coming up. Elfman has also scored the documentary The Unknown Known, which will be released on April 2, 2014 by the Weinstein Company’s Radius label.

    The movie is likely to be popular on release, but complete vacuous trash to critics. Danny’s score might be the only discernible element to it.
