Academy Award-nominated composer Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump, The Avengers) will be the the special guest film music composer for the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera at the 2014 Chattanooga International Film Music Festival, which will take place from February 28 through March 2, 2014. He will join the festival’s artistic director, Emmy Award-nominee George S. Clinton (Austin Powers, Tooth Fairy, Wild Things), for a weekend of seminars with composers such as Clinton and Sundance Film Music Program director Peter Golub. There will also be a panel discussion moderated by BMI’s Doreen Ringer Ross, a screening of Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future followed by a discussion with Silvestri, as well as open rehearsals and two film music concerts with the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera. The first concert features a screening of the Academy Award-winning musical Singin’ in the Rain, which will be shown with live accompaniment by the symphony. The second concert, Hooray for Hollywood, features a suite of Clinton’s music for Austin Powers, a suite of Golub’s music for the documentary These Amazing Shadows, a suite of Silvestri’s music for Back to the Future conducted by Silvestri himself, as well as additional popular film music conducted by the symphony’s Music Director Emeritus and Principal Pops conductor, Bob Bernhardt.
