Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the film adaptation of the bestselling novel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland. Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring songs from and inspired by the film, including the original song Atlas by Coldplay. Click here for the full album details. Also opening wide is the comedy drama Delivery Man written and directed by Ken Scott and starring Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt, Cobie Smulders, Britt Robertson and Jack Reynor. The film’s original score is composed by Jon Brion (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Magnolia, This is 40). No word yet on soundtrack release. Delivery Man is a remake of Scott’s 2011 film Starbuck and follows a man who is informed that he has fathered 533 children via sperm donations he made twenty years earlier. Opening in limited release is the comedy drama Philomena directed by Stephen Frears and starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan. Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) who previously collaborated with Frears on films such as The Queen, Cheri and Tamara Drewe has composed the film’s original music. Decca Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on November 25. The album is already available overseas. Opening in almost 400 theaters is the family drama The Christmas Candle directed by John Stephenson and starring Hans Matheson, Samantha Barks, Lesley Manville, Sylvester McCoy, John Hannah, Barbara Flynn, James Cosmo and Susan Boyle. The film’s original music is composed by Tim Atack (The Invention of Lying, Cemetery Junction). No soundtrack album has been announced. Another limited release this week is the horror thriller Contracted written and directed by Eric Englanand starring Najarra Townsend, Matt Mercer, Alice Macdonald, Katie Stegeman, Charley Koontz, Caroline Williams and Simon Barrett. Kevin Riepl (Gears of War, the upcoming Cabin Fever: Patient Zero) has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music is now available.
