Michael Giacchino has signed on to score the upcoming comedy This Is Where I Leave You. The film is directed by Shawn Levy and stars Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Rose Byrne, Jane Fonda, Kathryn Hahn, Timothy Olyphant, Ben Schwartz, Corey Stoll, Dax Shepard, Connie Britton and Abigail Spencer. The movie is based on a novel by Jonathan Tropper (Banshee) and follows a dysfunctional and idiosyncratic family in which the father’s death forces four grown siblings to spend a week together under the same roof for the first time in a decade. Tropper also has written the screenplay and Levy is producing the project with Paula Weinstein (The Perfect Storm, Analyze This, Blood Diamond). Most of Levy’s previous features, including Cheaper by the Dozen, Date Night and The Pink Panther featured music by composer Christophe Beck. The director has also collaborated with Danny Elfman on Real Steel and Alan Silvestri on the A Night at the Museum films. This Is Where I Leave You is expected to be released in 2014 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
As previously reported, Giacchino’s upcoming projects also include the Wachowski siblings’ Jupiter Ascending, Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland and Matt Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
I hope this score will get some sort of album release (50/50 didn’t). Giacchino’s comedy scores are fun to listen to now and then, even if they can’t compare to his other work.
