Rolfe Kent has signed on to score the upcoming fantasy adventure Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. The film based on the best-selling young adult novel series by Richelle Mead is directed by Mark Waters (The Spiderwick Chronicles) and stars Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry as the lead characters Rose and Lissa. Danila Kozlovski, Olga Kurylenko, Sarah Hyland, Gabriel Byrne and Joely Richardson are co-starring. The movie follows a teen who has a mental and spiritual bond with her vampire best friend and attends a special school for vampires who are attempting to keep some of their humanity while other of their species are becoming more wild. Dan Waters (Heathers, Batman Returns) has adapted the novel for the screen. Don Murphy (Transformers series) and Susan Montford (Real Steel) are producing the project for Angry Films, alongside Michael Preger (Village of the Damned) for Preger Entertainment and Kintop Pictures’ Deepak Nayer (Lost Highway, Bend It Like Beckham). Kent has previously scored most of Waters’ features including Mean Girls, Freaky Friday, Just Like Heaven and most recently, Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Vampire Academy is set to be released on February 14, 2014 by the Weinstein Company.
As previously reported, Kent has also scored three movies that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this month: Jason Reitman’s Labor Day starring Kate Winslet & Josh Brolin (to be released on December 25, 2013), Dom Hemingway starring Jude Law (coming out in the US on April 4, 2014) and Jason Bateman’s directorial debut Bad Words, which was picked up by Focus Features for a release on March 22, 2014).
