Danny Elfman Wins Saturn Award for ‘Frankenweenie’

Personally, I was hoping for Thomas Newman. Really wanted him to win. As far as I’m concerned he did a damn good job with Skyfall.
Elfman’s Frankenweenie – and I’m saying this as a huge fan of his work – is a typical dark Burton/Elfman score and on top of that it’s basically a combination of Sleepy Hollow and The Wolfman. Not saying it as bad thing but it’s really “been there, done that”. On the other hand, Newman’s Skyfall was much more ballsy, memorable and exciting. At least in my opinion. Clearly he was experimenting a lot and overall it’s something that you wouldn’t expect to hear from him. He deserves credit and recognition for that.
I like the Saturn Awards and I follow them every year. Can’t say the same for the other movie award shows (Oscars, Globes….). Don’t care about them. At all.
Most of the time I agree with the Saturn Awards but on this one I disagree strongly. Newman deserved it.
