Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi adventure After Earth directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Will Smith and Jaden Smith. The film’s music is composed by James Newton Howard (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village) who regularly works with the director. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week. The CD version is currently set to be released on June 11. Also opening wide is the heist thriller Now You See Me directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Isla Fisher, Melanie Laurent, Woody Harrelson, Michael Kelly, Dave Franco and Common. Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Fast Five, The Expendables) composed the film’s original score. Glassnote Records has released a soundtrack album featuring selections from Tyler’s score, as well as Two Door Cinema Club’s Sun, Phoenix’s Entertainment and a remix of Tyler’s score by Robert DeLong. Opening in limited release is the indie coming-of-age comedy drama The Kings of Summer directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and starring Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally and Alison Brie. Guster frontman Ryan Miller (Safety Not Guaranteed) has composed the film’s original score. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Miller’s music, as well as three hip hop tracks by Kevin Writer and Douglas James (The Skywalkers) and the song Golden Clouds by The Orb feat. Also opening in limited release is the espionage thriller The East directed by Zal Batmanglij and starring Brit Marling, Alexander Skarsgård, Ellen Page, Julia Ormond and Patricia Clarkson. Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, Kingdom of Heaven) has composed the main themes and Halli Cauthery has written the score. No soundtrack album has been announced. The East follows a former FBI agent who goes deep undercover to infiltrate an elusive anarchist collective seeking revenge against major corporations guilty of covering up criminal activity. Also opening in limited release is the thriller Shadow Dancer directed by James Marsh and starring Clive Owen, Andrea Riseborough, Aidan Gillen and Gillian Anderson. The film’s original score is composed by Dickon Hinchliffe (Winter’s Bone, Last Chance Harvey) who previously scored Marsh’s documentary Project Nim.
