James L. Venable is currently scoring the upcoming horror spoof sequel Scary Movie 5. The comedy is directed by Malcolm Lee (Undercover Brother, The Best Man) and stars Ashley Tisdale, Simon Rex, Erica Ash, J.P. Manoux, Molly Shannon, Terry Crews, Heather Locklear, Charlie Sheen, Lindsey Lohan and Chris Elliott. David Zucker (Airplane, the Naked Gun) has co-written the screenplay with Pat Proft (Police Academy) and is also producing the Dimension Films production with Phil Dornfeld. Venable has previously scored the last two parts in the Scary Movie series and followed David Kitay has composed the score for the original movie and Marco Beltrami who scored the first sequel. The composer’s other previous credits include Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl, Clerks II and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, as well as the comedies EuroTrip and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. Scary Movie 5 is set to be released on April 12, 2013 by the Weinstein Company.

Actually there was at least half a dozen composers working on Scary Movie II.
At least 14 known composers, after George S. Clinton’s score was rejected.
After doing all that “Samurai Jack” scoring, he’s just sitting there, only to be used on another crappy Scary Movie film? His agent must be busy elsewhere.
It’s nice to have Venable scoring movies again, even if it’s “Scary Movie 5”. I almost thought he’d disappeared.
