T-Bone Burnett has reunited with Ethan and Joel Coen on their upcoming music-themed drama Inside Llewyn Davis. The movie based on the memoir of folk singer Dave Van Ronk, a friend of Bob Dylan’s and other famous musicians, stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, F. Murray Abraham and John Goodman. The movie is set in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene and follows a struggling musician from Queens who, despite being a talented singer and guitarist, can’t make ends meet. The Coens are producing the project with Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network). Burnett has previously written the music for the Coen Brothers’ 2000 drama O Brother, Where Are Thou? and was also involved in Academy Award-winning filmmakers’ features The Ladykillers and The Big Lebowski. No word yet on if the directors’ regular musical collaborator Carter Burwell has written any music for the film. Inside Llewyn Davis will be shown at a screening next month hosted by Nonesuch Records (which is expected to release the soundtrack) and Burnett. A release of the movie later this year is expected.
Burnett is also currently writing songs and co-scoring ABC’s critically acclaimed series Nashville.
