Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action drama Gangster Squad directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Pena. The film’s score is composed by Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Battleship). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring songs Jonny Mercer & The Pied Pipers, Imelda May, Pee Wee King, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Peggy Lee, Delta Rae and St. Vincent. Also opening wide is the horror spoof A Haunted House directed by Michael Tiddes and starring Marlon Wayans, Essence Atkins, Cedric the Entertainer, Nick Swardson, David Koechner and Affion Crocket. The movie doesn’t feature any original score. The film’s music supervisor is Andy Ross (The Grey). No soundtrack album has been released. The comedy about a young couple who have just moved in to their dream house and quickly find they’re not alone is being release by Open Road Films. Opening in limited release is the comedy drama Quartet directed by Dustin Hoffman and starring Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon and Pauline Collins. The film’s score is composed by Dario Marianelli who has just received his third Academy Award nomination for his score for Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina. Also opening in limited release is the indie comedy drama Struck by Lightning directed by Brian Dannelly (Saved) and starring Chris Colfer, Rebel Wilson, Sarah Hyland, Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney, Angela Kinsey, Allison Janney, Ashley Rickards and Polly Bergen. The film’s music is composed by Jake Monaco who has worked with Christophe Beck for the past couple of years on numerous film projects. Beck serves as the film’s score producer. Also opening in select cities is the sci-fi thriller Storage 24 directed by Johannes Roberts and stars Noel Clarke, Colin O’Donoghue, Antonia Campbell-Huges and Laura Haddock. Christian Henson (The Devil’s Double, Severance, Hysteria) has composed the film’s music. Screamworks Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week.
