According to The Playlist, Broken Social Scene member Brendan Canning will be scoring the upcoming indie drama The Canyons. The contemporary L.A. noir film is directed by Paul Schrader and written by Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho, The Rules of Attraction). The movie stars James Deen, Lindsay Lohan, Nolan Funk and Amanda Brook and explores the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition among a group of young people in their 20’s and how one chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their live. Braxton Pope (Shrink) is producing the project. Schrader’s previous musical collaborators on his directorial efforts include Girogio Moroder (Cat People, American Gigolo), Angelo Badalamenti (Auto Focus, Forever Mine) and Gabriel Yared (Adam Resurrected). Canning has previously scored a number of indie movies by himself, as well as part of Broken Social Scene, most notable 2006’s Half Nelson starring Ryan Gosling and 2010’s It’s Kind of a Funny Story.
