Randy Newman has confirmed in a recent interview with Laughing Place at the world premiere of Pixar’s Brave in Hollywood that he will be returning to score the studio’s next animated feature Monsters University. The composer previously scored the original 2001 Monsters, Inc. film, for which he received his first Academy Award for the song If I Didn’t Have You and was also nominated for his score. During the interview, Newman mentions that he will also be writing a new song for the prequel. Check out the interview, as well as the film’s teaser trailer after the jump. Monsters University is directed by Dan Scanion and focuses on the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at the University of Fear. Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi Jennifer Tilly, Frank Oz and John Ratzenberger are returning to the movie’s voice cast and are joined by Kelsey Grammer.
