David Buckley has signed on to score the upcoming thriller Parker. The film is directed by Taylor Hackford and stars Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte and Michael Chicklis. The movie is based on a book series by Donald Westlake (The Grifters) and revolves around an honorable thief (played by Statham), which is the same character that has previously been portrayed by Mel Gibson in Brian Helgeland’s Payback. John J. McLaughlin (Black Swan) has written the screenplay and Hackford is producing the Sierra/Affinity, Incentive Filmed Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Production with Steven Chasman, Les Alexander (Transporter series, The Bank Job), Sidney Kimmel (The Lincoln Lawyer, Lars and the Real Girl) and Jonathan Mitchell. The director’s previous musical collaborators include James Newton Howard (Salt, The Devil’s Advocate), Craig Armstrong (Ray, The Bone Collector) and Danny Elfman (Proof of Life, Dolores Claiborne). FilmDistrict has picked up domestic distribution rights for Parker and is currently planning to release the thriller on January 25, 2013. (Kraft-Engel Management)
Buckley has also scored the four-hour mini-series Coma. The medical thriller directed by Mikael Salomon (Band of Brothers) is a modern day retelling of the bestselling novel by Robin Cook and film by Michael Crichton (which featured a score by Jerry Goldsmith). The cast includes Richard Dreyfuss, Ellen Burstyn, James Woods, Geena Davis, Lauren Ambrose and Steven Pasquale. John J. McLaughlin who also penned Parker has written the script based on the New York Times bestseller by Robin Cook. Ridley Scott, Tony Scott & David W. Zucker (The Good Wife), Martin Erlichmann and Salomon are executive producing the Sony Pictures Television production. Coma will be airing this Memorial Day weekend on A&E.
