Alex Heffes has been tapped to score the upcoming Vietnam War-set drama AWOL. The film marks the directorial debut of Danny Mooney and stars Liam Hemsworth, Teresa Palmer, Austin Stowell, Aimee Teegarden, Chris Howell and Max Adler. The movie is based on the true story about a young soldier in Vietnam who is dumped by his hometown girlfriend and – together with his best friend – returns to the States to win her back. Jim Burnstein (Renaissance Man) and Garrett Schiff have written the screenplay and also serve as executive producers. Chip Diggins and Patrick Olson are producing the Deep Blue Pictures, Red 56 and Peninsula Films production. No distribution deal or release date has been announced yet for AWOL.
Heffes whose previous work include the scores for The Last King of Scotland and State of Play is coming of a busy 2011, which saw the release of three major features, including The Rite, Red Riding Hood and The First Grader. The composer also received the Discovery of the Year award at the World Soundtrack Awards in September.
