Marco Beltrami is currently scoring the thriller Blackbird. The film stars stars Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde as a brother and sister fleeing after a casino heist, who meet a young boxer just out of prison. Charlie Hunnam, Kris Kristofferson, Sissy Spacek, Kate Mara and Treat Williams are co-starring. The movie is directed by Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky who previously directed The Counterfeiters, which won the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category in 2008. Zach Dean wrote the screenplay and Gary Levinsohn (Saving Private Ryan) is among the project’s prroducers. No release date or domestic distribution deal has been announced yet for the 2929 Entertainment and Mutual Film Co. co-production.
As previously reported, Beltrami also has the horror thriller The Thing coming out this fall. The movie starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eric Christian Olsen and Joel Edgerton is a prequel to the 1982 classic directed by John Carpenter. The film is directed by Matthijs van Heijingen Jr. and produced by Marc Abraham and Eric Newman (Dawn of the Dead, Children of Men). The Thing is set to be released on October 14 by Universal Pictures.
Also coming up for the composer is the horror thriller Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, which he co-scored with Buck Sanders. The movie directed by Troy Nixey and starring Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison recently premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival. FilmDistrict will be releasing the movie on August 26.
