Focus Features has announced that Jon Brion has signed on to score the upcoming 3D stop-motion animated comedy thriller ParaNorman. The movie centers Norman, a misunderstood 13-year-old boy who is the only person in a small town that has the abilities to prevent an attack from zombies. The film’s voice cast includes Kodi Smit-McPhee, Casey Affleck, Tempestt Bledsoe, Jeff Garlin, John Goodman, Bernard Hill, Anna Kendrick, Leslie Mann, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Elaine Stritch, Tucker Albrizzi, Alex Borstein and Jodelle Ferland. The film is directed by Sam Fell (Flushed Away, The Tale of Desperaux) and Chris Butler (storyboard supervisor on Coraline) who also wrote the screenplay. Focus Features and Laika Entertainment have previously produced the 2009 Academy Award-nominated animated film Coraline. ParaNorman is only the second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D and is set for a theatrical release on August 17, 2012.
As previously reported, Brion has also scored the indie drama The Future written and directed by Miranda July and starring Miranda July and Hamish Linklater. The film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been picked up by Roadside Attractions for a theatrical release on July 29, 2011.
