J. Ralph has been hired to score the upcoming indie drama Arbitrage. The film stars Richard Gere, Tim Roth, Susan Sarandon, Laetitia Casta, Brit Marling and Josh Pais. The movie written and directed by Nicholas Jarecki centers on a troubled hedge fund magnate who is forced to turn to an unlikely ally when he makes an error. Nicholas is the brother of director Andrew Jarecki (Capturing the Friedmans, All Good Things) and makes his live action feature directing debut on the project. Laura Bickford (Traffic, Duplicity), Robert Salerno (21 Grams, A Single Man), Kevin Turen (An American Crime) and Justin Nappi are producing. Principal photography on Arbitrage started last month and a release for the film isn’t expected before 2012.
The composer who is best known for his score for the 2006 thriller Lucky Number Slevin starring Josh Hartnett and Bruce Willis and his music for a couple of high profile documentaries, including The Cove and Man on Wire also has another film project coming up. The drama Maladies starring James Franco, Catherine Keener, David Strathairn, Alan Cumming and Fallon Goodson centers on a successful actor who retires at a young age due to what is believed to be a mental illness. The film written and directed by Carter was shot in New York and is currently in post-production. International rights for the film have been acquired by Voltage Pictures and the film is now awaiting a domestic distribution deal and release date.
