Deborah Lurie is writing the score for the upcoming remake of Footloose. The film is directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan) and stars Kenny Wormaid, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell. The movie is a remake of the 1984 hit film directed by Herbert Ross and starring Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest. Miles Goodman served as the music adaptor on the original film. The remake is said to focus more on the drama of the original movie about a city kid who moves to a conservative town where dancing and rock music has been banned and less on elaborate musical numbers of the Footloose stage adaptation.Paramount Pictures has set an October 14, 2011 release date for the film.
As previously reported, Lurie also has the teen comedy Prom coming out later this month. A soundtrack album for the Joe Nussbaum-directed film has recently been announced by Hollywood Records. The album features several songs from the movie from such artists as Allstar Weekend, Shere, Moon and Nolan Sotillo, but none of Lurie’s original score is included.
