Toho has confirmed today that Naoki Sato (Rurouni Kenshin, Pretty Cure, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Masquerade Night, X, Blood-C) is reuniting with director Takashi Yamazaki to score the upcoming Japanese monster movie Godzilla Minus One. The film is written and directed by Yamazaki (Lupin III: The First) and stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Sakura Ando, Hidetaka Yoshioka and Kuranosuke Sasaki. The movie is set in post-war Japan as the economic state has been reduced to zero, when the titular monster appears and plunges the country into a negative state. Minami Ichikawa (Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman) is producing the Toho Studios and Robot production with Kazuaki Kishida, Keiichiro Moriya, Gō Abe and Kenji Yamada. Sato has previously collaborated with Yamazaki on such features as Space Battleship Yamato, the Parasyte live-action movies, Destiny: The Tale of Kamakura, The Great War of Archimedes and The Fighter Pilot, and last year’s Ghost Book. Godzilla Minus One is set to open in Japanese theaters on November 3 and will be released theatrically in the U.S. on December 1.
