Kris Bowers (Green Book, Dear White People, When They See Us, Monsters and Men) has been hired to score the upcoming sports comedy sequel Space Jam 2. The film is directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip, Undercover Brothers) and stars LeBron James as himself, as well as Don Cheadle, Sonequa Martin-Green and Ceyair J. Wright. The movie follows the NBA superstar as he teams up with Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes James is also producing the project with Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed), Duncan Henderson (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World , Oblivion) and Maverick Carter (Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker). James Newton Howard has composed the score for the original 1996 Space Jam film. Space Jam 2 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide on July 16, 2021 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Bowers’ other recent projects the new FX on Hulu limited series Mrs. America, which is premiering today, Justin Simien’s feature Bad Hair , which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been picked by Hulu for a release later this year, as well as new seasons of Black Monday, Netflix’s Dear White People and Raising Dion, which has also been renewed for a second season.
