Jeff Cardoni has been tapped to score the upcoming comedy Status Update. The film is directed by Scott Speer (Step Up Revolution) and stars Ross Lynch, Olivia Holt, Courtney Eaton, Rob Riggle, Famke Janssen, John Michael Higgins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Ostrovsky, Alexandra Siegel, Diana Bang, Martin Donovan, Harvey Guillen, Gregg Sulkin and Brec Bassinger. The movie centers on a teenager who, after being uprooted by his parents’ separation and unable to fit into his new hometown, stumbles upon a magical app that causes his social media updates to come true. Jason Filardi (Bringing Down the House, 17 Again) wrote the screenplay. Adam Shankman (Hairspray, The Wedding Planner) and Jennifer Gibgot (Tangled, Step Up series) are producing for Offspring Entertainment, alongside Shawn Williamson (White Noise) for Brightlight Pictures and Dominic Rustam (Colossal, Good Kids) for Voltage Pictures. Cardoni has previously scored Offspring’s Step Up All In, which was executive produced by Speer. Status Update is expected to be released later this year.
Cardoni’s upcoming feature projects include The Female Brain, Once Upon a Time in Venice and Smitten!. The composer also has the Netflix original series Girlboss coming up. The comedy is set to premiere on April 21. The composer also continues to score CBS’ Training Day, ABC’s Speechless and HBO’s Silicon Valley.
