John Paesano has been tapped to score Marvel’s upcoming Netflix original series The Defenders. The show is developed by Douglas Petrie & Marco Ramirez (Daredevil) and stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, all of which are reprising their roles from their own shows. Élodie Yung is also starring as Elektra Natchios. The 8-parter based on the Marvel Comics characters takes place a few months after the events of the second season of Daredevil and follows the superheroes as they team-up in New York City. Petrie and Ramirez are also executive producing the Marvel Television and ABC Studios production with Drew Goddard (The Martian, Cabin in the Woods), Jim Chory (Heroes) and Jeph Loeb (Legion, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Paesano has previously scored both seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil. The Defenders is set to premiere later this year on Netflix.
Paesano’s upcoming projects also include Steven S. DeKnight’s Pacific Rim 2 and the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me. He is also set to return to score the third and final installment in The Maze Runner series, The Death Cure. The film directed by Wes Ball and starring Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, Barry Pepper, Will Poulter and Patricia Clarkson follows Thomas and the surviving Gladers as they fight to find a cure for the deadly disease known as The Flare that has wiped out most of the world. T.S. Nowlin who scripted the previous two movies wrote the screenplay based on James Dashner’s book and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman and Wyck Godfrey (Twilight, I Robot) return as producers. The Maze Runner: The Death Cure will be released on January 12, 2018 by 20th Century Fox.
