Working Title Films and Focus Features announced today that Dario Marianelli will be reteaming with director Joe Wright on the upcoming historical drama Darkest Hour. The film stars Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill, alongside John Hurt as Neville Chamberlain, Lily James as Churchill’s personal secretary, Ben Mendelsohn as King George VI and Kristin Scott Thomas as Churchill’s wife, Clementine. The movie follows Churchill as he leads a charge against Adolf Hitler’s army in the early days of World War II. Anthony McCarten (Theory of Everything, Death of a Superhero) wrote the screenplay. He is also producing the project with Lisa Bruce and Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Les Miserables, Frost/Nixon, Love Actually, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). Marianelli has previously scored most of Wright’s features, including Atonement, for which he received his first Oscar, as well as Pride and Prejudice, Anna Karenina and The Soloist. Darkest Hour is currently shooting and is set to be released on November 24, 2017 by Focus Features.
