Toby Chu has been hired to score the upcoming animated feature Surf’s Up 2: WaveMania. The film is directed by Henry Yu (story artist on Sym-Bionic Titan and Hotel Transylvania) and features the voices of WWE stars John Cena, The Undertaker, Triple H, WWE Diva Paige and Mr. McMahon. The sequel to the 2007 film follows Cody Maverick as he convinces an infamous big wave riding crew known as The Hang 5 to let him join them on their journey to a mysterious surf spot known as The Trenches, where legend has it, they’ll find the biggest waves in the world. Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket) is writing the screenplay and Michelle Wong is producing the Sony Pictures Animation and WWE Studios production. Mychael Danna scored the original movie back in 2007. Surf’s Up 2: WaveMania is set to be released next year in time for the original film’s 10th anniversary by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
As previously reported, Chu also has the dramatic thriller To Have and To Hold (previously entitled Unforgettable) starring Katherine Heigl & Rosario Dawson, as well as John Leonetti’s The Wolves at the Door coming up. The composer is also scoring the upcoming Freeform original series Beyond. The show is created by Adam Nussdorf (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland) and stars Burkely Duffield, Romy Rosemont, Michael McGrady, Jonathan Whitesell, Dilan Gwyn and Jeff Pierre. The drama follows a young man who wakes up from a coma after 12 years and discovers new abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. Nussdorf is also executive producing the project with Tim Kring (Heroes), David Eick (Battlestar Galactica, Falling Skies), Steven Adelson, Zak Kadison, Justin Levy and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister, Midnight Special). No premiere date has been announced yet for Beyond.
