Ilan Eshkeri is composing the music for the upcoming family adventure Swallows and Amazons. The film is directed by Philippa Lowthorpe (Call the Midwife) and stars Rafe Spall, Kelly Macdonald, Gwendoline Christie, Jessica Hynes, Andrew Scott, Harry Enfield, Dane Hughes, Orla Hill, Teddie-Rose Malleson-Allen, Bobby McCulloch, Seren Hawkes and Hannah Jayne Thorp. The movie is based on the best-selling novel of the same title by Arthur Ransome and follows four children dreaming of an escape from the tedium of a summer holiday with their mother as they travel to a a remote island in the middle of a vast lake. Andrea Gibb (Dear Frankie) has written the screenplay. Joe Oppenheimer is producing the BBC Films production with Nick Barton (Calendar Girls, Kinky Boots) and Nick O’Hagan. Swallows and Amazons is expected to be released later this year.
Eshkeri also has the thriller Collide starting Felicity Jones & Nicholas Hoult coming up. The composer’s other upcoming projects include the indie comedy drama Measure of a Man directed by Jim Loach and starring Donald Sutherland, Blake Cooper, Luke Wilson, Judy Greer, Liana Liberato, Beau Knapp, Danielle Rose Russell, Luke Benward, and Sam Keeley. The movie is based on Robert Lipsyte’s YA novel One Fat Summer and centers on a bullied teen who experiences a turning point summer in which he learns to stand up for himself. Christian Taylor (Hick) is producing the project and David Scearce (A Single Man) has written the screenplay. Eshkeri is co-scoring the film with Tim Wheeler. The movie is expected to premiere later this year.
