John Paesano has been tapped to score the upcoming sports drama My All American. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Angelo Pizzo (Rudy, Hoosiers, The Game of Their Lives) and stars Aaron Eckhart, Finn Wittrock, Robin Tunney and Sarah Bolger. The movie tells the true story of 1960s University of Texas football star Freddie Steinmark and his relationship with legendary Texas coach Darrell Royal. Steinmark was a player on the national-title-winning 1969 team, before his career was cut short when he went to the hospital for a bone bruise and learned that he had a cancerous tumor that took his leg. Pizzo has also written the screenplay. Paul Schiff (Rushmore, My Cousin Vinny, Mona Lisa Smile) is producing the project. My All American is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2015.
Paesano who previously scored this year’s hit feature The Maze Runner and the sports drama Where the Game Stands Tall also has Marvel Studios’ Netflix series Daredevil coming up. The composer will also return to score the third season of DreamWorks Animation’s show Dragons: Riders of Berk, which is set to premiere in 2015.
