Danny Elfman revealed in a recent interview with LIVE105 that he will be composing the music for the upcoming period drama Tulip Fever. The film is directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boyleyn Girl) and stars Alicia Vikander, Dane DeHaan, Jack O’Connell, Christoph Waltz, Holliday Grainger, Zach Galifianakis, Judi Dench, Matthew Morrison, Tom Hollander, Cara Delevingne and Cressida Bonas. The movie is set in 17th century Amsterdam and follows a married woman who begins a passionate affair with an artist hired to paint her portrait. Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love, Empire of the Sun, Brazil) has written the screenplay based on the romance novel by Deborah Moggach. Alison Owen (Saving Mr. Banks, Jane Eyre, Elizabeth) is producing the project for Ruby Films. Harvey Weinstein is executive producing for The Weinstein Company. Chadwick’s previous two features Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and The First Grader were scored by Alex Heffes. Tulip Fever is currently in post-production and is set to be released in 2015.
Elfman also recently completed scoring the upcoming drama The End of the Tour. The film is directed by James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, Smashed) and stars Jason Segel, Jesse Eisenberg, Joan Cusack and Ron Livingston. The movie tells the true story of Infinite Jest author David Foster Wallace, who committed suicide in 2008 during a book tour at the start of his fame and his rivalry with Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky, who accompanied Wallace on the tour. David Kanter (In the Land of Women, Fun Size) and Matt DeRoss are producing the project for Anonymous Content, alongside James Dahl for Modern Man Films, as well as Mark C. Manuel & Ted O’Neal (Cut Bank) for Kilburn Media. The End of the Tour is expected to premiere in 2015.
The composer’s other upcoming projects include Tim Burton’s Big Eyes, the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, Mike Flanagan’s Somnia and Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.
