Thomas Newman is set to return to compose the score for the comedy drama sequel The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2. The film is directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) and reunites the cast of the original film including Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Penelope Wilton, Diana Hardcastle, Tena Desae and Lillete Dubey. They are joined by Richard Gere, David Strathairn and Tamsin Greig. Ol Parker (Imagine Me & You) who scripted the original film has written the screenplay based on a story by himself and Madden. Blueprint Pictures’ Graham Broadbent & Peter Czernin (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths are producing the project. Apart from the first Marigold Hotel film, Newman also previously collaborated with Madden on the thriller The Debt. The project marks the composer’s first sequel to a film he scored himself. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 is set to be released on March 6, 2015 by Fox Searchlight. As previously reported, Newman also has Tate Taylor’s James Brown biopic Get on Up starring Chadwick Boseman, the legal drama The Judge starring Robert Downey Jr., as well as Pixar’s animated feature The Good Dinosaur coming up.
