Gary Yershon has reteamed with director Mike Leigh on the director’s upcoming biographical drama Mr. Turner. The film stars Timothy Spall as the British the british landscape painter J.M.W. Turner. Lesley Manville, Rogers Ashton-Griffiths and Julian Seager are co-starring. Leigh has also written the screenplay. Georgina Lowe (Another Year) is producing the project and Gail Egan (We Need to Talk About Kevin, Byzantium) is executive producing. Yershon has previously scored Leigh’s last two features, Another Year and Happy-Go-Lucky, as well as the short A Running Jump. He also served as the music supervisor and arranger of the director’s Topsy-Turvy. Mr. Turner is expected to premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May. Sony Pictures Classics has picked up domestic distribution rights. No release date has been announced yet.

the score should have won the Oscar: it is a terrific modernist piece that plays against the early Victorian & Dickensian setting of the film and announces, as it were, the modernism of Turner’s art. Just a great, great and exciting score.
