George Fenton has reunited with director Ken Loach to score his upcoming feature-length documentary The Spirit of ’45 about a new socialism that emerged in the U.K. as World War II came to an end in 1945. The British director used footage from Britain’s regional and national archives, alongside sound recordings and contemporary interviews, to create a political and social narrative about the years following the second world war. The Fly Film Co. and Sixteen Films production is produced by Kate Ogborn (The Deep Blue Sea), Lisa Marie Russo (Of Time and the City) and Rebecca O’Brien (The Wind That Shakes the Barley). Fenton has been working with Loach for almost two decades on such films as The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Sweet Sixteen and most recently, The Angel’s Share. The Spirit of ’45 will be premiering at the Berlin Film Festival next month and is scheduled to be released on March 15, 2013 in the UK.
