In Contention (via The Playlist) is reporting that Clint Mansell is scoring the upcoming biopic The Iron Lady. The movie is directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!) and stars Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher and Jim Broadbent as her husband, Denis. The film follows the former British prime minister’s career, which saw her smash through barriers of gender and class in order to be heard in a male-dominated world. Ami Morgan (Brick Lane) wrote the project’s screenplay and Damian Jones (Millions, The History Boys) is producing. The Weinstein Company has picked up domestic rights for the film and is planning a release on December 16, 2011 in time for award consideration. Check out the film’s teaser trailer (which is using Mansell’s score for Duncan Jones’ Moon) below and visit the official movie website for more information about The Iron Lady.
