Jeff Rona is scoring the upcoming Cold War-set submarine thriller Phantom. The movie is written and directed by Todd Robinson (Lonely Hearts) and stars Ed Harris, David Duchovny, William Fichtner, Sean Patrick Flanery and Lance Henriksen. The movie revolves around a Captain of a Soviet submarine who has to leave his pregnant wife for a secret mission on which he is forced to face his past in order to find redemption in the present while being challenged by a rogue KGB group. John Watson & Pen Densham (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Backdraft) amd Julian Adams are producing the project. Robinson has previously written the screenplay for Ridley Scott’s White Squall, which marked Rona’s first major studio feature scoring assignment. Phantom is produced by RCR Media Group, Trilogy Entertainment and Solar Filmworks. A release of the film later this year is expected.
The composer confirmed the assignment in a recent interview with Cycling 74, in which he also talks about his start in the industry, his collaboration with Ridley Scott, as well as other past and present film projects. The website has also published a video interview with Rona, which is embedded below.
Rona has also scored the webseries The Ropes produced by Vin Diesel’s One Race Films and Fox Digital Entertainment. The series centers on a bouncer at New York’s hottest nightclub and stars Erin Cummings, Gonzalo Menendez, F. Valentino Morales, Ryan Ahern and Danny A. Abeckaser. Among the project’s directors are Vin Diesel himself (who also serves as an executive producer), Zoe Saldana, Cisely Saldana, Joe Ballarini and Frank E. Flowers. The Ropes premieres across all Crackle platforms today. For more information about the project, visit the official series website.
