Tyler Bates has recently recorded his score for the upcoming action comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me. The film is directed by Susanna Fogel (Life Partners, Chasing Life) and stars Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Justin Theroux, Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Ivanna Sakhno and Sam Heughan. The movie revolves around two thirty-year-old best friends in Los Angeles who are thrust unexpectedly into an international conspiracy when Audrey’s ex-boyfriend shows up at their apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail. Fogel has also co-written the screenplay with David Iserson. Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Friday Night Lights) is producing the Imagine Entertainment production with Erica Huggins (Get On Up, The Dark Tower). Bates recorded his score over the last few days at Abbey Road Studios in London. The Spy Who Dumped Me will be released on August 3, 2018 by Lionsgate. Visit the official movie website for updates.
Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, 300, John Wick, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead) also has the comic book movie Deadpool 2 (to be released on May 18), as well as Emilio Estevez’s drama The Public coming up.
His scoring career should have ended right when he plagiarized on 300. Goldenthal has disappeared from the public eye but Bates has become a mainstream sensation. Something needs to change.
