Alexandre Desplat is set to reteam with Jacques Audiard on the upcoming noir western The Sisters Brothers. The film marks the director’s first English language feature and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, John C. Reilly and Riz Ahmed. The movie is based on Patrick deWitt’s novel of the same title and follows two brothers in 1850s Oregon who are hired to kill a prospector. Audiard also co-wrote the screenplay with Thomas Bidegain. Reilly is also producing the project with Alison Dickey (Terri), Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Captain Phillips) and Rosa Attrab.Desplat has previously collaborated with Audiard on numerous movies, including A Prophet, Rust and Bone and The Beat That My Heart Skipped. The Sisters Brothers is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year. Annapurna Pictures will distribute the film in the U.S.
As previously reported, the composer also has Thomas Vinterberg’s Kursk coming up. The composer is currently up for an Academy Award for his score for Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water.
