Universal Pictures has confirmed to Film Music Reporter that Steve Jablonsky will be scoring next year’s sci-fi action tentpole Battleship. The film is directed by Peter Berg (Hancock, Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom) and stars Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, Hamish Linklater and Rihanna. The movie based on Hasbro’s classical naval combat board game has been described as a massive Naval adventure across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Erich and Jon Hoeber (Red) have written the project’s script and Scott Stuber (Role Models, The Wolfman) and Sarah Aubrey (Bad Santa, Lars and the Real Girl) are among the film’s producers. Universal Pictures has set a May 18, 2012 release date for Battleship.
Jablonsky who is best known for his scores for Michael Bay’s Transformers movies has recently recorded the music for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. As reported earlier this week, a score album will be released next month with more details to be announced soon.
Jablonsky is the new Hans Zimmer, that’s for sure. Can’t think of any other MV/RC composer who can score better ( with the exception of Zimmer of course ). He’s good with comedy, horror, action, drama, you name it.
Looking forward to Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and next year’s Battleship.
Steve Jablonsky is a new Hans Zimmer, I agree too. His music were one of the most masterpiece I have ever heard especially the Battleship soundtracks.
