Caldera Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack album for the 1997 Danish period drama The Island on Bird Street (Øen i Fuglegaden) directed by Søren Kragh-Jacobsen, based on the novel of the same title by Uri Orlev and starring Patrick Bergin, Jordan Kiziukh, James Bolam, Jack Warden, Michael Byrne, Heather Tobias and Suzanna Hamilton. The album features the film’s original music composed by Zbigniew Preisner (When a Man Loves a Woman, The Secret Garden, Three Colors, The Queen of SpainBetween StrangersDekalog), presented as a 6-part “symphony” of extended suites. The Island on Bird Street is set during World War II and tells the story of Jewish boy who is left on his own for months in a ruined house in the Warsaw Ghetto, where he must learn all the tricks of survival. The movie, which premiered at the 1997 Berlin Film Festival, was released theatrically in Denmark and other European markets later that year and is now available in the U.S. on VOD and DVD.
